My two year old's running me ragged!
"Hi Annie
I have a two year old that's very busy and always running. He's always getting in to stuff, so I wrote in for advice to a parenting site and they told me to treat him as though he was a visiting scientist , constantly providing him with all sort of different outlets for his curiosity. It sounded great and I tried it, except that now I'm just so tired. I can't live like this as I have no time to cook or do anything except try to keep one step ahead. Can you give me your ideas? I'm ready to try anything.

Hi Katherine
Don't despair. Two year olds are naturally busy and wear out the best of us but I think treating your son like a visiting scientist is too much strain for anyone to fulfill day after day. By all means provide interesting activities as they are necessary to his development, but also remember that if your child never gets to play on his own then he may grow up lacking the ability to entertain himself. I sympathize with your predicament as there's a lot of parenting advice out there, much of it contradictory, which has the effect of confusing even the most grounded of parents. Try to listen to your instincts as much as you can. Every parent has other chores to do and kids have to understand that. They can join in or parallel play near you, but it doesn't do your child any harm to learn that the world doesn't completely revolve around him. After all, if he doesn't learn it now it will be a terrible shock to the system when he hits school and has to line up and take his place within a larger group.
Hope this helps.
Annie
