Daughter likes to pick her nose

Hi Annie the Nanny
My three year old daughter likes to pick her nose. She does it everywhere and it's makes me feel sick. I've tried to ask her to stop and even started sending her to her room when she does it, but it still hasn't worked. Any ideas?

Yuck! Try the following: Firstly, explain that picking her nose is an unhealthy thing to do. Talk about all the nasty bugs she can pick up, not to mention the ones she can spread. Tell her that it’s also never something that we do in public. (I wish people would tell that to guys in cars particularly when they’re stuck in traffic!) Tell her that’s it’s a habit she needs to break and that you’re there to help her. Assign a place, the bathroom and insist that she goes there, while she’s learning to stop. Make it an upstairs bathroom and she’ll get so tired walking up and down stairs that she’ll probably quit relatively fast. Make it a game. Better get up there quick! Along side that, catch her not picking her nose or doing anything remotely positive other than that and praise her for it. Focus on the positive and it’ll disappear faster than you think.
